I think Obama's views as expressed regarding the coal industry and it's compatible group of miners seems to be somewhat different than the tight situations he has endured throughout the contest. This was a direct hit, with no possibility of pulling a rabbit out of the hat, Houdini style and repairing the damage. The very blue collar workers that both candidates must convince that are now fuming are in states such as Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania, which was tight before the cat got out of the bag. Worse yet, the statements were furthered from San Francisco, birthplace of his other blunder aimed at small towns. I think that this will be a tough one for John McCain but he is known as a relentless warrior and he is in it until the end. I saw the last polls tonight and they are astoundingly tight with McCain one up in Florida. Closeness, I believe, favors McCain-Palin because voters who will be indecisive once in the booth are more likely to pull the lever for McCain who is not the candidate who would bring up last minute doubts. This was a highly unusual and almost surreal voyage, Election 2008 and miraculously, even on election day there is this pit of the stomach anxiety in both camps and with the American people as well. You can make any electoral argument you want, we just do not know for sure.
