I saw a woman become hysterical in a variety store today, something about her manufacturers coupon shorting her a buck or two on a small purchase. She started pleading and going through her children's histories and this went on for some time. Today the stores just stand there stoically because no one gets a break today. I started to wonder about this, the pathetic properties of a society where two dollars can demorialize and diminish a person' defenses and reduce their self worth. Every time I go out for takeout because nobody is paying $200 to go to a half empty restaurant, it is a ghost town and stores are for lease and house signs every which way but loose. I see Americans tight as a drum everywhere, at each other's throat. The plans we hear for massive government intrusiveness in our lives and a burgeoning deficit is not only scary it is the fear of the unknown attached to so many issues, We may be in an actual Depression and not know it because economists have to look back in hindsight to determine the nomenclature to describe our misery. I would suggest that in the coming elections do not focus on the broken promises. When you vote, do a bottom line assessment of your lot in life. In the booth you are safe, you do not have to speak to pollsters if you do not want to.
